Living Versus Existing—Are You Awake?
For years, I’ve witnessed so many people—including myself, at times—fall into what I call the “dreamlike state.” It’s that feeling of simply existing, running on autopilot, moving from one task to another without really feeling life (you know, that programmed doing from childhood, society, or just the grind). But what if I told you there’s a way to break free?
In this episode, I unpack what it means to “wake up to your life in the deepest way possible.” It’s about more than personal growth—it’s about truly being in your life, rather than only doing life. When you’re present, you experience everything more deeply: a loved one’s laugh, the color of the trees, the spirit of a bird outside your window. Even mundane moments begin to feel spiritual and profoundly meaningful.
Why Is Waking Up So Hard?
Let’s not kid ourselves—it’s tough. The endless distractions are real: social media, an overflowing to-do list, family obligations, and the constant pull in a thousand directions. But here’s the pivotal insight I share on the podcast: while the reasons for being so “asleep” in life aren’t your fault, it is your responsibility to claim your power and choose awakening.
Simple Steps to Start Waking Up
Here’s where I get practical. The journey starts with awakening to yourself. As I share in every episode, it’s essential to spend time inwards, however busy your day is. Here are actionable steps, lifted right from my conversation:
- Morning & Night Rituals: Before you get out of bed and before you drift off to sleep, close your eyes, and connect with your energy. Visualize how you want your day to unfold and how you want to feel as you go about it. This takes less than a minute but, done consistently, rewires your subconscious and sets you up for presence.
- Consistency Is Key: If it doesn’t feel transformative right away, that’s normal—it’s about daily practice. Just as you learned your autopilot habits over time, you’ll learn this new way of being with deliberate effort.
- Subconscious Rewiring: The magic happens in the theta brainwave state—that dreamy state just as you wake up or fall asleep. That’s when your subconscious is most suggestible. I recommend utilizing guided meditations (like those on the Rewired app) for deeper transformation, but simply closing your eyes to focus inward is a great place to start.
- Daily Reminders: I love sharing one quick hack: set reminders on your phone throughout the day just to pause and take a breath. It’s a small reset that brings you back into being, out of the busy doing state.
From Hustle to Presence—Reclaiming Your Identity
Most of us have programmed ourselves into identities of busyness, hustle, and “not having time”—but I believe, and share on the podcast, that we all have the power to choose a new story. You can become someone who is awake, present, and alive in every moment. It just takes intention and uses the power of your subconscious mind.
