In this blog post, based on the core insights from my podcast episode, I’ll break down the four most common ways you might be doing personal development wrong and share exactly what to do instead.
1. Too Much of Everything = Progress in Nothing
It’s easy to get lost in the chaos of the self-growth world. There are endless books, courses, and modalities—sometimes, it can feel downright overwhelming. I’ve been there myself: reading one transformational book after another but forgetting what I learned as soon as I started the next title.
The truth? If you want deep, lasting change, you have to focus. Pick one technique, teacher, or philosophy and immerse yourself. Instead of chasing the next shiny concept, try going back to that book that truly resonated. Reread, highlight, and repeat. Trust me, repetition is the secret to mastery.
2. Check Your WHY—Is It Ego or Intuition?
Here’s a tough pill to swallow: if your desire for growth is coming mainly from your ego (“I want to manifest fancy things” or “I want to be more successful than everyone else”), you’re setting yourself up for disappointment and self-sabotage.
Having goals isn’t bad! But the real question is, who do you want to be? Not just “What do I want to have?” When your intention is pure, rooted in self-love, and a genuine wish to improve yourself (for yourself and others), everything else flows more naturally. Ask yourself—am I doing this from a place of intuition and love, or am I spiraling into comparison and lack?
3. Making Self-Development Another Chore
If your personal development practice feels like a box to tick or a chore you dread, you’re missing out on its true magic. Energy matters! When you force yourself to meditate or eat healthily—complaining all the way—you’re stuck in a low-vibe loop.
You don’t have to be high-energy every single time, but try to find excitement or gratitude behind your actions. Hype yourself up when you hit the gym. Remember why you chose these routines. When the energy is aligned, results start piling up.
4. You Have to Embody the Next-Level YOU—Now
Here’s the secret sauce: If you want to become a higher version of yourself, start acting as that person today. How does future you move, think, feel, and show up? Make choices from that empowered place. Visualize your best self, feel their energy, and infuse it into every single day.
This is not “fake it until you make it.” This is about vibrating at the level you wish to reach. When you genuinely embody that identity, your outer world starts to shift almost like magic.
Your Action Plan for Effective Personal Growth
- Pick one focus area or book and stick with it. Reread and practice.
- Check your intention. Make sure you’re doing it from a place of love, not just to “get” more.
- Mind your energy. Do habits that excite you and bring positivity to your routine.
- Embody your higher self NOW. Every day, ask: “How would the next-level me show up today? ”
