Why Mental Strength Matters
Letâs be realâlife throws us challenges from every direction. Business, relationships, personal health… itâs not always smooth sailing. The key to not just surviving, but thriving through it all, is mental toughness. If we donât have that âmuscleâ developed, each new challenge can feel overwhelming.
But hereâs the good news: mental toughness is a skill you can train and strengthen, just like a muscle at the gym!
Tip #1: Remember Youâve Overcome Hard Things Before
When youâre in the thick of something hard, my best advice is to look back and remember a time when you overcame a difficult challengeâbig or small. Maybe it was heartbreak, grief, a business setback, or something from childhood that stretched your limits.
Why does this matter? Youâre reminding your subconscious that you are capable. You have evidence from your own life that you can make it through hard times! This empowers you to face your current challenges with the mental strength youâve already demonstrated.
How to do this:
- Take a moment, close your eyes, and recall vividly a time you made it through something tough.
- Channel the feeling and energy of strength from that past version of yourself.
- Tell yourself, âIf I did it before, I can do it again.â
Tip #2: Use Self-Hypnosis to Shift Your Identity
The next powerful strategy is self-hypnosis. Itâs not just for showâself-hypnosis is a tool to reprogram your subconscious and shift your identity to someone who is mentally strong by default.
Hereâs how you can try this:
- Get comfortable and close your eyes.
- Enter a relaxed, trance-like state with some calming breaths.
- Visualize yourself as the strongest, most resilient version of yourself. See yourself handling lifeâs obstacles with confidence and resourcefulness.
- Let yourself âbecomeâ that mentally tough person in your mind.
This identity shift is crucial. The more you see yourself as already mentally strong, the more youâll naturally rise to challenges instead of shrinking from them.
Tip #3: Physically Challenge Yourself Every Day
The mind and body are deeply connected. When you push yourself physically, you build both physical AND mental toughness. Even simple daily challengesâlifting a heavier weight, running when you donât feel like it, or nailing a difficult yoga poseâhelp train your mind for resilience.
My advice:
- Do something physically challenging every day, even if itâs a small stretch beyond your comfort zone.
- Donât save hard things for âlater.â Face them now.
- Remember, every time you push through physical discomfort, youâre building both muscle and mental grit.

Mental toughness isnât about never struggling. Itâs about meeting challenges head-on, remembering your past victories, rewiring your self-image, and embracing the discomfort that leads to growth.
