What Is Reparenting Your Inner Child?
On this journey, I dive into the concept of reparenting—healing the wounded inner child that lives within us all. Many of us react in ways we aren’t proud of, feel triggered, or get stuck in cycles that seem impossible to break. The reason? These patterns are programmed in the subconscious mind and aren’t easily resolved by conscious effort alone.
Why Conscious Efforts Aren’t Enough
You might have tried traditional methods for healing: therapy, coaching, reading self-help books, yoga, and meditation. These practices matter, but they often work only at the conscious level. The true root of our emotional patterns lies in the subconscious, which controls 95% of our behaviors and reactions. That means most of our actions are automatic, guided by programming established during childhood.
How the Subconscious Is Programmed
Think about learning to brush your teeth as a child. You needed guidance and repetition until it became second nature. The same goes for our emotional responses, relationship dynamics, and habits. Whether we faced big traumas (“big T”) or a series of smaller, daily wounds (“little T”), these experiences shaped our subconscious and continue to guide our adult reactions.
Recognizing a Wounded Inner Child
A wounded inner child manifests through negative emotional reactions, self-sabotage, and cycles we struggle to break. Even if we can’t consciously remember traumatic events, our subconscious holds onto them. That inner child is still calling out for attention, love, and healing.
The Reparenting Process: Give Yourself What You Always Needed
Here’s a simple yet powerful practice you can try:
- Close Your Eyes & Find a Peaceful Place
Visualize a safe, calm environment. It could be a beach, your favorite vacation spot, or anywhere you feel relaxed. - Invite Your Inner Child Forward
In that peaceful place, ask your wounded inner child to step forward. This may feel emotional—know that this is normal and the beginning of healing. - Ask, “What Do You Need From Me?”
Don’t focus on revisiting trauma; instead, gently ask your inner child what they need from you right now. - Give Yourself Compassion and Nurturing
Listen to the response and begin to act on it—whether it’s self-care, kindness, or simply taking a moment for yourself. Healing starts when you give yourself the love and attention you always needed.

The Power of Self-Love in Healing
Healing isn’t just about letting time pass. True healing happens when we apply love and compassion to our wounds, not when we push them down or ignore them. What we suppress often comes up in other ways—through bad habits, negative reactions, or unexplained sadness.
