How to Stop Holding Yourself Back: The Power of a Winning Mindset

Hey, it’s Gianna Badot here! If you’ve ever caught yourself saying, “I’m trying…” (trust me, we all have), it’s time for a real talk. In episode 118 of the podcast, I dove into how this little word could be the biggest thing holding you back from true success—and what to do about it.

Why Trying is Failing in Disguise

Here’s the truth: telling yourself that you’re trying to accomplish something? It’s a trap. In the eyes of your subconscious mind, to try is basically to admit that you might fail. When you say, “I’m trying,” you’re not really in it—you’ve got one foot out the door. You’re signaling to your subconscious that you don’t completely trust yourself to win.

And let’s get real: your subconscious mind runs the show. It decides how you act, what you say, what decisions you make… even when you think you’re consciously in control. So, if deep down, you think you’re only “trying,” you’re creating a safety net of excuses. If things don’t work out, you can just say, “Well, I tried.”

But what if you stopped trying and started committing?

The Secret to a Winning Mindset

It’s time to be honest with yourself. Ask: Where am I just trying and not truly all in? This isn’t about being hard on yourself or shaming yourself. It’s about radical self-honesty, so you can take courage and go all in.

A winning mindset sounds like this:

  • “I am doing this.”
  • “This is happening for me.”
  • “It’s only a matter of time.”

But here’s the kicker: you can repeat these affirmations all day, but if your subconscious doesn’t believe them, nothing’s going to change. That’s why you must rewire those old limiting beliefs, replacing the doubts with powerful convictions.

How to Rewire Your Subconscious for Success

  1. Clear Out Old Limiting Beliefs
    Get honest about where you’re doubting yourself. Fear, hesitation, past failures—all these things get stored in your subconscious. Awareness is the first step.
  2. Commit, Don’t Try
    Make a decision: Are you all in or are you out? There is no in-between. Ditch the word “try” from your vocabulary. You’re either committed, or you’re not.
  3. Practice Daily Affirmations in a Relaxed State
    Repetition is key, but your mind is most receptive when relaxed—think meditation, self-hypnosis, or guided subconscious work.

Why Subconscious Work Changes Everything

They help you feel those truths in your bones, not just say the words. When your inner belief matches your outer intention, success stops being something you “try” and becomes inevitable.

Practical Steps for You

  • Notice where you’re using the word “try” (and swap it out immediately)
  • Decide right now: Am I all in? If yes, act like it. Operate from the belief that it’s just a matter of time.
  • Write down these affirmations:
    “I am doing this. This is happening. It’s only a matter of time.”
  • Repeat them every day, especially when doubts creep in.

Success, fulfillment, even happiness—they’re not about “trying hard enough.” They’re about aligning your subconscious, committing with both feet in, and refusing to negotiate with your fear.
