Hi friends! I’m Gianna Badot, and welcome to The Awakened Self Podcast. In this episode, I dive deep into a transformative topic: how to heal the identity that’s keeping you from living your fullest, most joyful life. As a certified hypnotherapist, meditation teacher, spiritual guide, and one-on-one coach, I’ve spent years supporting others on the journey from feeling stuck to living awakened and empowered.
Understanding Your Identity: It’s All Parts, Not Just the Hurt
So let’s get honest: Many of us are walking around, unknowingly identifying with a wounded part of ourselves. It’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that the pain, heartbreak, or trauma we’ve experienced is the sum of who we are. I see this all the time in my coaching and therapy practice. But here’s the truth: you are made up of many unique parts—layers and layers built from all life’s moments. Your pain? It’s just one part. Your healing, joy, and success? They’re parts too, waiting to take center stage.
Healing Starts with Choice
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned (and teach others) is that you choose your identity every single day. The “stuck” version of you, the one held back by wounds or limiting beliefs, doesn’t have to be your forever identity. At any moment, you can choose to embody the healing, awakened version of yourself.
The first step is disidentification: recognizing that the pain or wounded narrative is only a part of you—not your whole being. When you do this, you open up space for other, healthier parts of yourself to take charge.
Why Your Wounded Identity Feels So Loud
So, why does the wounded part feel so dominant? It’s simple—the pain is asking for healing and attention. Until you give your subconscious mind the chance to process and heal, this part will keep showing up in your work, relationships, and daily life.
I use a method called Parts Therapy in my hypnotherapy sessions. This therapeutic approach lets you dialogue with those hurt parts, asking powerful questions like “What do you need?” or “How can I support you?” When we listen, we can offer real, compassionate care, turning trauma into wisdom.
Turning Down the Volume on Your Inner Critic
Our inner critic—the voice that highlights our flaws, doubts, and failures—is often just the wounded identity speaking up. It can feel loud, but remember: you have the power to turn down its volume. Healing isn’t just reading a book or talking it out; it’s about rewiring your subconscious mind so you can form a new, positive self-narrative and let your healed parts lead the way.
Living Awakened and Present
When you do the inner work (which is often subconscious), you stop living on autopilot. Instead of letting your wounded self run your day, you consciously choose to let healed, joyful, present parts of you be in charge. That’s where true transformation happens—when the healthy identity gets to fill your relationships, work, and parenting with positive energy.
Action Steps for Healing Your Identity
Ready to start? Here’s how you can begin healing your identity today:
- Remind yourself daily: “I am not the wounded version of myself. It is a part of me, but it is not all of me.”
- Notice when you feel off: Feeling drained, negative, or not like yourself? That’s your cue for some inner investigating.
- Ask your wounded part: “What do you need right now?” The answer might be rest, support, or just attention.
- Practice subconscious reprogramming: Use guided meditations or hypnotherapy (check out my Rewired App!) to turn up the volume on your healthy, healed self.
- Seek support: If you want to go deeper, reach out for one-on-one guidance or connect with more resources [linked in the show notes].
Final Thoughts
You are not your pain—you are so much more. Healing the identity that keeps you stuck is about shifting your subconscious programming, nurturing all parts of yourself, and choosing every day to live awakened and present. Your wounds can become wisdom, and your inner critic can take a back seat as the healed, joyful you takes charge.
