Hi friends,
I’m Gianna Badot—a one-on-one coach, certified hypnotherapist, and meditation guide. If you’re anything like me (or the clients I work with every day), then “hustle” probably feels like an old friend who never wants to leave. But these days, I’m questioning whether that friendship is serving me—or just keeping me stuck in stress and exhaustion.
Let’s talk about what I call “the hustle wound”. This is something I dug into deeply in my latest podcast episode, and honestly, it was eye-opening (and a little emotional).
What is the Hustle Wound?
The hustle wound is this deeply ingrained belief—often planted in us as kids—that working endlessly, burning ourselves out, and “earning” every moment of rest is the only way to survive or feel worthy in the world. Chances are, you picked up these messages from your parents or caregivers. Perhaps you’ve heard them say things like, “Success requires sacrifice,” or seen them constantly stressed and busy. Even without explicit words, just witnessing their nonstop hustle was enough to wire that message into your mind.
As adults, this underlying programming becomes the lens we see everything. Suddenly, hard work turns into overwork. Every attempt to slow down is accompanied by guilt or anxiety. We’re left feeling like relaxation is dangerous or unearned.
Why Can’t (or Won’t) I Relax?
Here’s the kicker: Most of us simply don’t feel safe relaxing.
When I try to be still, a million thoughts burst in—shouldn’t I be doing something? Did I finish everything? And don’t even mention vacations! Being away from the never-ending to-do list doesn’t feel restful; it feels unsettling (sound familiar?).
This is all because our subconscious minds have equated hustle with safety. If we stop hustling, we feel exposed or vulnerable. Rest becomes a privilege for “when we’re done”—but in our minds, the work is never truly done.
Understanding & Healing Our Programming
So what can we do?
1. Become aware of your programming.
Start revisiting childhood memories around work, rest, and success. What were you told about hard work and breaks? What did you see growing up? Recognize these stories as programming you inherited—not truths set in stone.
2. Rewire your beliefs at the subconscious level.
Healing the hustle wound means releasing outdated stories and telling your mind something new: “Rest is safe. Stillness is productive. I am worthy of ease—not just achievement.” The most effective way I’ve found to do this? Self-hypnosis and guided subconscious meditations. (Honestly, my clients and I have seen transformative results using my Rewired Meditations library.)
3. Practice new habits—and give yourself grace.
You won’t transform from a workaholic to a Zen master overnight! Allow yourself to practice being still. Start with five or ten minutes on a beach chair or in your living room—no phone, no book, just being. If you get uncomfortable, that’s okay. It’s literally retraining your brain.
Why It Matters
Friends, here’s some tough love: Success without fulfillment is always going to feel hollow.
If your life looks amazing on the outside but feels miserable inside—what’s the point? The more you can balance intentional hard work with intentional rest, the more you’ll unlock your true creativity, focus, and happiness.
Even better? When you operate from a state of calm self-trust, you actually become a magnet for the things you want. The “slow path” to your goals is paved with burnout; the “fast track” is paved with relaxation, stillness, and joy.
How I’m Making the Shift (And How You Can Too)
Here’s what’s working for me and my clients:
- Daily subconscious meditation.
I developed Rewired Meditations—a library of 50+ audio tracks for every mindset block, from burnout to money fears to confidence. - Repetition, repetition, repetition.
Your subconscious loves routine. The more you listen, the more your brain believes rest is safe. - Allow yourself to just be.
Give yourself permission to sit, breathe, and enjoy existing—even if it feels awkward at first. - Revisit old stories.
Get honest about where your hustle habits came from. You can honor your past without repeating it.
If you’re ready to break the cycle, I invite you to join me. Start with a meditation, take a mindful break, and notice how it feels. And if you want deeper support, check out the Rewired Meditations library (linked in the show notes), or consider working together one-on-one.
Let’s make “rest” your new superpower—because you are worthy of it, exactly as you are. With love,
Gianna Badot
