How to Reground Yourself and Bring Calm Into Chaos: My Three-Step Framework

If you’re finding yourself swimming in chaos—whether it’s long-standing, chronic stress or a sudden whirlwind (like moving into a new home with a toddler, anyone?)—I see you. In my recent podcast episode, I dove into exactly how you can snap out of chaos and bring yourself back to a place of calm and groundedness. As a certified hypnotherapist, one-on-one coach, and meditation teacher, these tools have helped me and my clients transform even the craziest days. Today, I’m sharing my go-to framework for regaining peace amidst the storm.

Why It’s So Important to Break Out of Chaos Quickly

Let’s start with why it matters. The longer you stay in a chaotic state, the more your subconscious brain starts to believe that you are a chaotic person, that stress finds you, and that struggles are just “how life is.” The power of your subconscious is immense—it learns through repetition and duration. So the more time you spend stressed, the more likely you’ll subconsciously attract and create more chaos.

But here’s the thing: it is always possible to rewire these patterns. The first step is catching yourself in chaos, and then choosing to step out of it.

My Three-Step Framework for Calm

Step 1: Take Time to Reground and Recenter

You have to give yourself permission to slow down. Whether it’s half a day or even just fifteen minutes, the goal is to do nothing but relaxing, grounding activities. For me, during my recent move, I took a long hot shower with lavender (super soothing, by the way!), and the difference was palpable. For you, maybe it’s a spa day, a walk in nature, curling up with a good book—anything that feels calming and resets your nervous system. This step allows you to peel back the layers and find clarity, so you can start seeing the silver lining in your situation.

Step 2: Remind Yourself—You Are Experiencing Chaos, But You Are Not Chaotic

It’s so easy to start believing “I’m just a stressed person,” but that’s simply not true. I invite you to close your eyes and say, “I am experiencing chaos, but I am not chaotic.” You are not the chaos; the chaos is just a passing experience. By unidentifying with the stress, you’re rewriting your inner script—this is a powerful way to reclaim your peace.

Step 3: Wire Your Brain for Calm with a Daily Grounding Routine

Here’s where the magic happens! You need consistent, calming daily practice. Meditation, mindfulness, breathwork, a walk outside—pick something that makes you feel grounded, and do it every day. Even 2–5 minutes is enough. The effectiveness builds through consistent repetition, not occasional effort.
