Why Affirmations Aren’t Working for You
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been told by countless gurus and coaches that affirmations are your golden ticket to manifesting abundance, self-love, or that dream job. Maybe you’ve dutifully repeated, “I’m a millionaire” or “I love myself,” hoping change will magically appear. The truth? If you don’t believe the words you’re saying, your subconscious will simply reject them.
In our upbringing, we absorb belief systems from the adults around us. These internal narratives—about money, love, success, or self-worth—become deeply rooted in our subconscious. So, if your core belief is “becoming a millionaire is impossible for me,” repeating the opposite probably just feels… off.
The Subconscious Roadblock
Here’s the kicker: your subconscious mind drives 95% of your thoughts, behaviors, and outcomes. Most beliefs lie far beneath your conscious awareness—so you might want one thing, but your subconscious is calling the shots, shaping your reality based on what it has always known.
For instance, if you struggle with loving yourself, saying “I love myself” in the mirror, over and over, won’t ring true. The subconscious always wins. That’s why so many people feel discouraged when affirmations don’t “work.”
A Better Way: Belief-Aligned Affirmations
Instead of repeating affirmations you can’t believe, rephrase them to meet yourself where you are. Try, “Every day, I am learning to love myself a little more,” or “I am starting to see opportunities for abundance all around me.” When your affirmations feel genuine and believable—even if just slightly—they’re far more likely to stick.
The Power of Hypnotherapy and Self-Hypnosis
If you really want to move the needle, it’s time to talk about subconscious rewiring. Techniques like hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis go straight to the source, accessing the subconscious directly. In these deeply relaxed yet alert states, you can replace limiting beliefs with new, empowering ones. Think of it as speaking the language your subconscious truly understands.
During hypnotherapy (which you can do one-on-one with a certified expert) or self-hypnosis (with guided audio recordings), you’re awake and aware, but deeply relaxed and receptive. Here, affirmations like “I am worthy of abundance” can anchor themselves much more powerfully—because your subconscious is open to rewriting those old stories.
Practical Steps for Lasting Change
- Choose Believable Affirmations: Start with phrases that resonate with you today, and evolve them as your beliefs shift.
- Incorporate Self-Hypnosis: Use guided audios or work with a hypnotherapist to rewire your mind at the deepest level.
- Stay Consistent: Transformation isn’t instant, but when you work at the subconscious level, change happens faster—up to 10x compared to traditional methods like talk therapy or just saying affirmations.
