Breaking the Biggest Myth About Hypnotherapy: You’re Not Asleep—You’re Waking Up!

Hey there, beautiful souls! I’m Gianna Badot, and today I want to dive into a topic that’s close to my heart because it’s so misunderstood: hypnotherapy. If you’ve ever wondered, “Is hypnosis just someone making me fall asleep on stage?” or “Will I even be awake for this?”—this blog is for you!

Let’s unravel the misconceptions together, using what I shared in my podcast episode. I promise, by the end of this, you’ll have a whole new perspective on how hypnotherapy can be the transformational tool you’ve been searching for.

The Biggest Misconception About Hypnotherapy

I’ll get straight to the point: Hypnotherapy is NOT sleep.

This is, hands down, the question I get asked most often and the one myth that keeps so many people from trying this life-changing practice. I get it—stage shows and movies make it look like hypnosis puts you to sleep, but that’s pure entertainment, not healing. In fact, in a true hypnotherapy session, you’re more awake and aware than ever before.

Hypnotherapy is an awakening—a journey back to your truest and highest self.

What Really Happens During Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy isn’t about clucking like a chicken or losing control. It’s a guided, deeply relaxing process where I, as your certified hypnotherapist, lead you into what’s called the theta brainwave state. Think of this as the sweet spot between being fully awake and falling asleep—the place where your mind is calm, your anxiety melts away, and you access the hidden parts of yourself.

With your eyes closed, you enter a state of progressive relaxation. You’re not in the delta brainwave state that comes with sleep. Instead, in theta, you’re deeply relaxed—almost like daydreaming—but completely in tune with your inner world.

Why Is the Theta State So Important?

Here’s the science: your subconscious mind is the blueprint for pretty much everything in your life—beliefs, habits, emotions—from childhood onward. This programming runs 95% of your day! If you want to change it, willpower alone won’t cut it, and simply wishing things were different doesn’t work if your subconscious isn’t on board.

But here’s the magic: You can only access and rewire your subconscious in the theta state. That’s why hypnotherapy is so powerful (and why listening to a hypnosis recording as you fall asleep can still work—your subconscious is always “on”, even when you’re asleep).

This is the key to real transformation. Whether it’s a block around success, a childhood wound, or a money mindset issue, hypnotherapy takes you right to the source and lets you rewrite your story.
